Are you looking for a PhD scholarship or postdoctoral research opportunity in Thailand? The Century Fund Scholarships 2027-2028 at Chulalongkorn University provide funding opportunities for doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers interested in conducting advanced research at one of Thailand’s leading universities.

The programme is offered through Chulalongkorn University’s Second Century Fund (C2F). It provides separate funding routes for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. Applicants should choose the route that matches their academic stage before preparing their application.

For the current PhD round, applications are open for January 2027 entry, with a deadline of 30 October 2026.

Chulalongkorn University C2F Scholarship: Key Details

The Second Century Fund supports research across areas including science, social sciences and humanities. However, funding is linked to specific tracks, research requirements and available university facilities.

The PhD scholarship has three funding tracks. Track A provides THB 25,000 per month, while Track B provides THB 20,000 per month. Track C provides tuition support without a monthly stipend.

Funding is available for up to three years. Tuition is covered according to Thai-student rates, while international surcharges, programme fees and other additional charges may remain the student’s responsibility.

Postdoctoral researchers have a separate C2F fellowship route. The postdoctoral programme provides monthly financial support and may include a retention payment linked to research outputs. Applicants should check the current fiscal-year 2027 policy for the applicable amount and conditions.

PhD Scholarship or Postdoctoral Fellowship?

Applicants should first determine which C2F opportunity matches their academic background.

C2F PhD Scholarship

The PhD route is designed for students who are entering a doctoral programme at Chulalongkorn University. Applicants must arrange doctoral admission and identify an appropriate academic mentor.

The PhD programme has two application rounds each year. The current round is for January 2027 entry.

C2F Postdoctoral Fellowship

The postdoctoral route is intended for researchers who have already completed their doctoral studies and want to undertake further research at Chulalongkorn University.

The postdoctoral programme operates on a different schedule from the PhD scholarship. Applicants should therefore use the current postdoctoral policy rather than applying the PhD eligibility rules or deadline to a postdoctoral application.

Who Can Apply for the C2F PhD Scholarship?

The current C2F PhD rules generally target newly enrolling doctoral students who are no more than 35 years old when their programme begins. Existing Chulalongkorn students are not eligible under these rules.

Academic requirements also depend on the applicant’s previous degree.

Master’s graduates generally need a GPAX of at least 3.50. Bachelor’s graduates generally need a GPAX of 3.25 from a university ranked among the QS or THE top 500, or 3.50 from other universities.

Applicants with thesis-only master’s degrees and no conventional grades may qualify through an alternative thesis evaluation and publication pathway.

Meeting the C2F requirements does not automatically guarantee admission to a doctoral programme. Applicants must also satisfy the academic and admission requirements of their chosen faculty.

English Language Requirements

International PhD applicants who graduated outside Thailand must meet the C2F English requirements.

Under the current rules, applicants may need an IELTS score of 5.0 or TOEFL score of 500.These are C2F thresholds. Individual doctoral programmes or faculties may require higher English scores. Applicants should therefore check both the C2F requirements and the admission requirements of their intended programme.
