The AskSia Scholarship 2026 in the UK is an international scholarship competition designed to encourage students to think critically about the growing role of artificial intelligence in education. AskSia is offering two awards of $1,500 USD to students who can present thoughtful arguments about where the line falls between using AI as a helpful tool and becoming dependent on it.

The scholarship is open to students from all countries and fields of study. Applicants do not need to use AskSia, and prior use of the platform does not provide an advantage. The scholarship information is hosted on the University of Birmingham website, while the award programme is provided by AskSia.

AskSia Scholarship 2026 Benefits

The main benefit of the AskSia Scholarship is a $1,500 USD educational award. Two successful applicants will receive the scholarship, with each award paid directly to the recipient's educational institution.

How the Scholarship Is Paid

Each $1,500 award is paid in two instalments of $750 USD. The funds are credited toward tuition fees or other qualified educational expenses. The scholarship is not normally paid directly to students.

If an institution cannot accept third-party payments, AskSia states that it will work with the successful applicant to find an alternative arrangement. Any tax obligations that apply in the applicant's country remain the applicant's responsibility.

AskSia Scholarship 2026 Eligibility Criteria

The scholarship is designed to be accessible to students worldwide. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled at, or have a confirmed offer from, an accredited educational institution.
  • Be 17 years or older when applying.
  • Have a cumulative average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or a recognised equivalent.
  • Students at the University of Birmingham can use approximately 57–60 as the stated equivalent range.
  • Be studying any academic subject or discipline.
  • Be from any country or eligible domicile.

Applicants cannot apply if they are employees of AskSia or immediate family members of AskSia employees. Students who have already applied during the 2026 cycle cannot submit another application. Previous recipients of the AskSia Scholarship are also not eligible to apply again.

How to Apply for the AskSia Scholarship 2026

The application process requires applicants to submit four key documents. Preparing these materials carefully is important because the scholarship focuses heavily on the quality of the applicant's essay and argument.

1. Complete the Application Form

Applicants should complete the AskSia AI Literacy Scholarship Application Form and save the finished form as a PDF.

2. Write an 800–1,000 Word Essay

Applicants must write an original essay addressing one of the approved topics. The available themes include:

  • Where the line sits
  • What changed in your own studying
  • What is worth learning yourself

The essay should present the applicant's own argument and reasoning. Applicants may use AI for basic grammar and spelling checks, but they must not submit an essay whose argument or structure was created by an AI system.

3. Provide an Academic Transcript

Applicants must submit an official or unofficial transcript showing their full name, institution name, and current cumulative academic standing.

4. Submit a Recommendation Letter

One recommendation letter is required from an appropriate referee, such as a teacher, faculty member, advisor, counsellor, or community leader. The recommendation should be sent from the referee's institutional email address. All four documents should be submitted together according to the formatting and submission instructions provided by AskSia.

AskSia Scholarship Essay and AI Rules

A central feature of the AskSia Scholarship 2026 is its focus on AI literacy. Essays are judged on the strength of the argument rather than whether applicants use a particular AI product.

Applicants may use AI to check grammar and spelling. However, an essay written by another person or an essay whose argument or structure was produced by an AI system can result in disqualification.

Students do not need to argue that AI is harmful to learning. Different viewpoints are acceptable as long as the essay presents a genuine, well-developed argument.
